Ricci Institute Research Grant(s) $500 to $1000
Doctoral Candidates
The Ricci Institute awards grants from $500 to $1000 to doctoral candidates in the United States to travel to the University of San Francisco during the 2006-2007 academic year to use the Ricci Institute Collection for their research on topics related to Chinese-Western cultural exchange and/or the history of Christianity in China. The grant provides reimbursement for up to $1000 for travel (travel and hotel) to the USF Ricci Institute for research. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate how the Ricci Institute’s library holdings will facilitate their dissertation research. The Ricci Institute awards grants from $500 to $1000 to researchers/faculty members outside of the San Francisco Bay Area to travel to the University of San Francisco during the 2006-2007 academic year to use the Ricci Institute Library for their research on topics related to Chinese-Western cultural exchange and/or the history of Christianity in China. The grant provides reimbursement for up to $1000 for travel (travel and hotel) to the USF Ricci Institute for research. The grant provides reimbursement for up to $1000 for travel (travel and hotel) to the USF Ricci Institute for research. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate how the Ricci Institute’s library holdings will facilitate their dissertation research. Asian Scholars Grant(s) $500
Under the terms of the Asian Scholars endowment, the Ricci Institute awards two grants of up to $500 every year to American scholars of Asian descent to travel to the University of San Francisco during the 2006-2007 academic year to use the Ricci Institute Collection for doctoral/postdoctoral research on topics related to Chinese-Western cultural exchange and/or the history of Christianity in China. The grant provides reimbursement for up to $500 for travel (travel and hotel) to the USF Ricci Institute for research. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate how the Ricci Institute’s library holdings will facilitate their research. Application Process
Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents of the U.S.
Please submit the following:
Cover letter

A current curriculum vitae (C.V.)

Research proposal (600 word max.) that includes:
1. a detailed research plan
2. an estimated budget
3. proposed travel dates
4. an explanation of how the Ricci Institute’s library collection will facilitate the applicant’s research

A preliminary list of sources the applicant would like to access from the Ricci Institute Collection

The names and contact information for three referrals

Citizenship information

Applicants may apply to more than one grant at a time, however applicants may only be awarded one grant per year.

Criteria for granting of awards: The Awards Committee will evaluate applications according to the relevance of the research proposal to the USF Ricci Institute’s library collection, the significance of the project to the field, and the applicant’s scholarly qualifications.
